So I’ve now moved into my new (and hopefully long term) accommodation in Swansea. It’s a (big) double room with en-suite in a HMO (house of multiple occupancy) with a kitchen shared between each 3 rooms, communal space and indoor bike storage. Furnished so I can avoid that faff too.

It’s an old brewery conversation completed a few years back and it’s kept to a high standard. It’s well decorated, has a decent heating system (it’s needed in Wales!) and the fixtures and fittings are of a pretty high standard. Yay heated towel rail!

All bills are included! So I don’t have to act like an adult and deal with council tax, electricity bills and all that nonsense. It also has a 100mbps fibre internet connection (one per 3 flats - so shared with 2 other housemates) - but this will put my old ADSL connection I had in Bristol to shame. Movie download time!

I’ve spent the day getting the essentials sorted - internet access and TV! But I have a bit more work to do before the complete network with smart home functionality is up and running - but it’s a fun project for the weekend. TV, Alexa, Philips Hue lights and the media server are up and running! Still a few tweaks needed and no desktop PC yet - but almost there!

Work is only a 15 minute walk away - so the commute isn’t an issue - and safe bike storage means I can actually get out for a bit of a wider exploration of the city.

And with the Philips Hue lights properly installed -
