I recently had to take 3 trains for just under 5 hours to go and see some family up north (it's quite a way from Wales!) - and was of course obliged under current government rules to wear a 'face covering' that completely covers the nose and mouth. For that length of time.... it wasn't fun!
The train stations were heavily enforcing social distancing and the majority of staff were wearing face masks themselves - but on the actual train - when I was travelling at some points I had a carriage to myself... it made me feel slightly odd sitting there - not coughing and spluttering - but having to wear an uncomfortable and hot face mask for the duration on the journey. That didn't quite make sense to me - but rules are rules. That being said - this seems like the kind of measure you'd introduce as early on as possible to limit the spread of any outbreak before it had a chance to grow... but what do I know!
The constant barrage of propaganda style posters and tannoy announcements all felt a little 1984... but I guess sometimes we have to sacrifice some freedoms for the greater good.
Luckily I had my nicotine pouches with me so no more frantic running out for a cigarette during every change-over and making it sure I'm back in time!
